- Wear of the valve train area in low–speed operation becomes critical as engines become capable of high–speed and high–power performance. This paper describes the development of a design process to secure for the valve train a constant supply of lubricant film with particular emphasis on maintaining optimum conditions of lubrication in the cam and follower system. With this design process, a valve train made of ordinary materials can be designed to achieve an improved level of scuffing resistance without reduction of maximum load capacity.
