- New types of hot–rolled high–strength sheet steels have been developed. These are characterized by containing a small amount of phosphorus, in addition to carbon, manganese and so on, as hardening elements. Phosphorus has been considered to be one of the most harmful elements to steels on account of brittleness. However, rephosphorized cold–rolled sheet steels which contain phosphorus as a hardening element have been used for many parts without problems for several years. The authors have examined many steels with different phosphorus contents in the laboratory and at production mills. As a result, two types of high–strength sheet steels have been developed for automotive usage.
