Abstract

Developing and implementing policies and programmes that brings quick impacts over the years for the society especially in developing countries have proven difficult. This explains the gaps that exist between policy formulation and its implementation. This paper presents the evaluation of Nigeria's information technology (IT) policy by examining the mechanisms for its implementation. The evaluation utilised questionnaires to collect information from institutions in purposively selected sectors mainly from Abuja and Lagos in Nigeria. Data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. This paper concluded that the implementation of the 2001 IT policy in Nigeria did not have the so much of its desired results and that government needed to balance politics, flexibility and continuity with the vision and goals of the policy to effectively implement future policies.
