Abstract

A sound test planning is a key to enabling test execution results in a timely and cost-effective product optimisation and validation. Test planning involves the exercise of reason behind identifying, creating and running the value-added family of tests. Planning capitalises on team knowledge in relating an assigned product testing to product functions so that at the end, all product functions are optimised/validated prior to product launch. The degree of complexity involved in preparing a testing strategy reflects the degree of complexity embedded in product design architecture. Capitalising on recent development in design development such as axiomatic design principle, design innovation such as Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TIPS) and task management such as Design Structure Matrix (DSM), this paper offers a step-by-step approach to prepare a testing sequence for various possible cases of uncoupled and decoupled designs.
