Abstract

Low Carbon Manufacturing (LCM) can be referred to the manufacturing process that produces low carbon emissions intensity and uses energy and resources efficiently and effectively during the process. The paper aims to research the fundamental issues and implementation and application perspectives of LCM and is structured in four parts. Firstly, the LCM conception is introduced and critically reviewed, and then the characterisation of low carbon manufacturing discussed and formulated. Thirdly, the theoretical models for LCM are developed with initial models using the theory from supply chain modelling and Linear Programming (LP). Finally, the pilot implementations of LCM are explored with two approaches, i.e., desktop/micro machines and devolved manufacturing.
