- This paper presents a study on the influence of cutting parameters (cutting speed, feed rate and their interaction) on burr formation in drilling of Al/SiCp and Al/SiCp–Gr composites with carbide and coated carbide drills. L9 orthogonal array based on Taguchi techniques was used in the design of experiments. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was carried out to reveal the design parameter which has significant effect on burr formation. It was found that graphitic hybrid composites drilled with multifacet carbide drills exhibited lowest burr formation. The correlation between the variables and burr formation was established by using linear regression equations. Confirmation tests were conducted to validate the analysis. There was a close relationship between the experimental results and the statistical model. This also suggests that these models can be used for the prediction of burr height in drilling MMCs using different tool materials.
