- Abstract:
- This paper charts the progress of e-learning and its impact on training in the UK over a 15-year period. It will be argued that the progress of e-learning to date, as seen from the view point of the UK trainer, has fallen into three phases: understanding beyond the 'hype'; identifying critical issues; developing best practice. Over this period there has been a recurrent danger of overstatement of reality: progress has been gradual and perspectives of the benefits and progress of e-learning have been over-optimistic. As e-learning becomes embedded the agenda will be increasingly determined by trainers rather than vendors of e-learning.
