Abstract

Abstract: A novel, efficient and one‐pot multicomponent copper‐catalyzed amination of N ‐pyridyl imines is described. This, one‐pot, multicomponent reaction, in which imine acts as a directing group by chelating to the metal core, affords a domino approach for the transformation of the commercial pyridinamines, aldehydes and azide into valuable imidazo[4, 5‐b]pyridines with wide substrate extent and diversity. Abstract : We have developed a simple and unique method for a one‐pot domino synthesis of substituted imidazo[4, 5‐b]pyridines from pyridinamines, aldehydes and azide, utilizing a copper (I)‐catalyzed C−H amination as the key step. The use of economic CuI as catalyst, the commercially available starting materials and the broad substrate scope make this process more attractive. Various substituted groups on pyridinamines and aldehydes proceeded smoothly, and the desired imidazo[4, 5‐b]pyridines were obtained in good yields.
