- This paper presents an overview of research related to the effective removal (by sorption and/or flotation) of arsenates and arsenites from aqueous effluents, as exerted in depth at GICT Laboratory of Chemistry Department in Aristotle University during the last decade. This paper presents, compares and comments the results of more than 20 scientific papers. Equilibrium, thermodynamic and kinetic studies were carried out to determine the sorption capacity of ten materials under various experimental conditions. The highest sorption capacity corresponds to surfactant-modified akaganéite and was found to be 328 mg g –1, while the obtained flotation recoveries were higher than 90%.
