- Heavy metals are sorely toxic for the environment and human. In this study, the ability of feather for sorption chromium and lead from aqueous solution was investigated. All the experiments were carried out in a batch system. For this aim, the effect of various parameters such as pH, temperature, contact time, dosage sorbent and initial concentration were investigated. Results showed that maximum Cr (VI) and Pb adsorption were observed at pH 2 and pH 5, respectively. Also, the equilibrium time for Cr and Pb removal was archived 6 h and 8 h, respectively. Results also indicated that the adsorption efficiency decreased with increase in metals concentration. Experimental data were fitted with Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models and also, experimental data was best fitted onto pseudo-second order model. The results indicate that ostrich feathers can be utilised as an economic and effective sorbent for Cr (VI) and Pb removal in water and industrial effluent.
