- Abstract : In their Concept article onpage 13538 ff., M. Valášek and M. Mayor discuss several strategies to achieve controllable functionalization of solid substrates with functional molecules. The picture represents several molecular platforms bearing a different functionality that are bound to the flat surface, creating free space for the sterically demanding molecular operations atop surfaces. Emphasis is placed on the need for spatial arrangement and separation of these tailor‐made molecules that expose functionalities at the molecular scale.
