Abstract

ABSTRACT: In this letter, we propose a novel cross-range scaling algorithm to estimate the effective rotational velocity (RV) of non-uniform rotating targets by using affine invariant normalization and weighted average method in inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) image sequences. In our study, we first transform the image sequences by affine invariant normalization. Different from directly calculating the correlation coefficients, the pre-treatment can effectively compensate for the differences caused by 'scaled–stretched' transformation between the image sequences. Then, we calculate the correlation coefficients between the intermediate image and other remaining images, and further estimate the RVs. Consequently, the RV of intermediate image is efficiently estimated by weighted average method. Compared with traditional methods, the proposed method can overcome the limitations of non-uniform rotating targets. Experimental results based on simulated and real data validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
