- Abstract : Highly ordered SiO2 microstructures were synthesized by chemical transport method. The cone shaped microstructures were self‐arranged on spherical surface of gallium droplet. The achieved patterns looks like thorns on a cactus surface or needles on a hedgehog. The structural studies were done on single needles confirming their chemical composition and amorphous structure. This can be a very cheap and interesting way to grow regular structures for micro‐ and optoelectronics applications. Abstract : A simple chemical transport method was used to obtain Ga‐core / SiO2 ‐shell microstructures. The cone‐shaped silica needles assembled in a highly ordered pattern on a gallium droplet. Morphology of those regularly arranged microstructures was present in scanning electron microscopy images. The chemical composition and structure were confirmed using energy dispersive X‐ray and Raman spectroscopy. Such core‐shell, gallium‐silicon dioxide regular microstructures are reported for the first time.
