- Graphical abstract: Metal complexes with nitrogen-containing organic ligands have various applications in chemical and material sciences. Nowadays arylamidines are of interest as useful reagents for heterocyclic synthesis and as chelating ligands. Present research article "Spectral and structural characterization of chromium(III) complexes bearing 7-oxo-7H-benzo[de]anthracen-3-yl-amidines ligand" is devoted to the synthesis and characterization of novel metal complexes of substituted amidines from benzanthrone dyes family. Their structure and properties are evaluated by infrared and electronic spectroscopy, powder X-ray difractometry and scanning electron micrography, elemental and thermal analyses. Obtained results for chromium(III) complexes with various bromated and unbromated amidines as ligand are compared and discussed. It was established that the complexation of chromium cation with amidines molecules quenches the luminescence. Abstract: Novel chromium(III) complexes containing N-(3-benzanthronyl)-amidine ligands were synthesized and characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, powder XRD and SEM analysis as well as thermal analysis. The obtained results showed that synthesized complexes were less thermally stable then initial amidines. The elemental analysis suggests that the stoichiometry to be 1:3 (chromium:ligand) in prepared complexes, where the amidine molecule acts as bidentate ligand coordinated through nitrogen atoms of amidino group.
