- Graphical abstract: Two Tb III MOFs, showing a 3D (4, 4, 6)-connected {4 2 ·8 4 }{4 4 ·6 2 }2 {4 8 ·6 6 ·8}2 topology structure and a 3D NaCl-style 4 12 6 3 network, respectively, have been successfully obtained by ligands with different backbones. They both display highly sensitivity in the detection of acetone (ACE) as fluorescent sensors. Moreover, they exhibit relatively good RhB photodegradation properties in aqueous solution under UV irradiation. For1, the degradation ratio of RhB reaches 92.8% after 6 h. Abstract: Two Tb(III)-based metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with different bulky ligands, namely [Tb2 (L 1 )0.5 (L 1 )0.5 (L 1 )0.5 (L 1 )0.5 (L 1 )0.5 (L 1 )0.5 (DMA)] n (1 ) and [Tb(L 2 )0.5 (L 2 )0.5 (L 2 )0.5 (DMF)] n (2 ) (H2 L 1 = naphthalene-1, 4-dicarboxylic acid, H2 L 2 = anthracene-9, 10-dicarboxylic acid, DMA = N, N -dimethylacetamide and DMF = N, N -dimethylformamide), were solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses. Single crystal XRD analyses indicate that the backbones of ligands play an important role in governing the formation of the final frameworks. When compound1 assumes a 3D (4, 4, 6)-connected {4 2 ·8 4 }{4 4 ·6 2 }2 {4 8 ·6 6 ·8}2 topology structure, compound2 exhibits a 3D NaCl-style 4 12 6 3 topology network.
