- Abstract: In the present study, a series of Sm2 (Hf1-x Cex )2 O7 ceramics were fabricated by solid-state reaction method, and their structural and thermophysical properties were studied. The results indicated that all the Sm2 (Hf1-x Cex )2 O7 oxides exhibited a single fluorite-type structure, except for Sm2 Hf2 O7 which showed a pyrochlore structure. Because of the phonon scattering caused by CeO2 doping, the heat conductivity of Sm2 (Hf1-x Cex )2 O7 was reduced. The thermal expansion coefficient was also reduced owing to the relatively low electronegativity of Ce 4+ ions. The heat-physical properties of the obtained ceramics met the basic requirements of thermal barrier coatings.
