- Abstract : Sensitization‐initiated electron transfer (SenI‐ET) is a biomimetic photoredox catalytic approach in which the tasks of light‐energy collection and electron transfer are assigned to two different molecules. In the example presented by B. König et al. in their Communication onpage 8544 ff., Ru(bpy)3 Cl2 absorbs visible light and transfers the energy to polyaromatic hydrocarbons (e.g., pyrene) that perform the redox reactions. This two‐center photoredox process enables the use of extremely reducing molecules that do not absorb visible light for the activation of stable chemical bonds.
