- Abstract : The Cover Feature shows high‐energy supercapacitors as envisioned by Itamar Daube (www.itamardaube.com ). The capacitance of nitrogen‐doped carbon could be tweaked and considerably enhanced by orthogonal optimization of both its structure and surface chemistry. The first is achieved by varying pyrolysis conditions and the latter through an acidic surface treatment. When following the stepwise evolution of surface chemistry with X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the evolution of both oxygen‐ and oxygen‐nitrogen surface functionalities can be followed. These functionalities boost pseudocapacitive reactions that significantly contribute to the supercapacitance of the material.
