Abstract

ABSTRACT: The economic performance of the BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – has attracted international attention in recent years as their international status has grown. This paper looks beyond broad macroeconomic performance and investigates the distributional effects of growth. It suggests that overall economic growth has coincided with significant poverty reduction, but challenges remain.
