Abstract

Abstract : ( Int J Obstet Anesth . 2016;25:17–22) Spinal anesthesia for cesarean section is preferred in order to avoid the serious maternal complications that can occur during general anesthesia. However, spinal anesthesia is not without complications. Spinal anesthesia-induced hypotension occurs commonly and may have deleterious effects on both mother and fetus. To decrease the risk of hypotension a continuous infusion of phenylephrine is frequently administered, but there are limited data about the use of prophylactic boluses of the drug. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of 3 prophylactic bolus doses of phenylephrine during low-dose spinal anesthesia for cesarean section, including adverse hemodynamic effects and neonatal outcome.
