Abstract

Graphical abstract: Highlights: A novel tetranorditerpenoid (1 ) was isolated from Croton crassifolius . Compound1 displayed a rare skeleton which was firstly reported in natural products. The absolute configuration of1 was determined by single crystal X-ray data. Compound1 exhibited a lower anti-AD activity than memantine. Abstract: Norcrocrassinone (1 ), a novel tetranorditerpenoid possessing a fused 6/6/5 ring system, was isolated from the roots of Croton crassifolius . The structure of1 was elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods and confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The anti-Alzheimer's disease (AD) activity of1 was evaluated using humanized Caenorhabditis elegans AD pathological model.
