- Graphical abstract: A colorimetric sensorMOESQ based on squaraine was synthesized to detect Cu 2+ in CH3 CN with the detection limit of 1.88 × 10 −7 molL −1 . By adsorbingMOESQ on the chromatography paper, a colorimetric test paper for Cu 2+ was prepared, which could detect Cu 2+ with the color change from blue to faint yellow in the limit of detection concentration of 10 −6 molL −1 . Highlights: N, N'-bis(2-methoxy-ethyl) squaraine with λabs and λem of 643 nm 653 nm in CH3 CN. A colorimetric squaraine probe for selective detection of Cu 2+ ion in acetonitrile. The squaraine-based test paper for rapidly and easily detecting Cu 2+ by naked eyes. Cu 2+ detection limit 1.88 × 10 −7 molL −1 in CH3 CN and 10 −6 molL −1 for the test paper. Abstract: A colorimetric probe N, N'-bis(2-methoxy-ethyl)-2, 3, 3-trimethyl-3H-squaraine (MOESQ ) with H2 O solubility was synthesized to detect Cu 2+ .MOESQ exhibits good selectivity, high sensitivity and fast UV-Vis response toward Cu 2+ over other competing ions in CH3 CN. The detection limit ofMOESQ for Cu 2+ in CH3 CN can reach 1.88 × 10 −7 molL −1 .
