Abstract

Abstract: This study examined the mediating effect of core self-evaluations on the relationship between person–environment fit and job satisfaction among professional laboratory technicians. One hundred and ninety-seven professional laboratory technicians (158 females and 39 males) from both France and Belgium completed a person–organization fit scale; a person–job fit scale, a core self­evaluation scale and a job satisfaction scale. Correlational results indicated that job satisfaction was positively associated with person–organization fit, person–job fit and core self­evaluations. The results using structural equation modeling showed that core self­evaluations partially mediated the relationship between person–environment fit and job satisfaction. The significance and limitations of the results are discussed. Highlights: The mediating effect of CSE on the P–E fit-job satisfaction relationship is tested. Core self-evaluation is strongly associated with job satisfaction. The P–E fit-job satisfaction relationship is partially mediated by CSE.
