- Abstract: In this paper we report the application of carbon nanotube decorated polymer composite as a strain sensor. Mutli-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized by zeolite assisted chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and blended with polyvinylchloride (PVC). Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) has been used to characterize the morphology, FTIR spectroscopy and UV–Vis spectroscopy were used to characterize the structure of the PVC/MWCNTs composite. The piezo-resistive responses of the PVC/MWCNTs composite with different fabrication methods has been optimized. The studies on applying dynamical loads on the PVC/MWCNTs composite demonstrate that the composite functions as an excellent strain and stress sensor.
