- Abstract: The paper presents a one dimensional transient heat transfer model of casting to determine the temperature distribution as a function of time using FORTRAN software. Casting is considered to be semi-infinite. In the present work, the calculation of temperatures at any point within the casting is performed by calculating the error function. The solidification time and length of metal solidified at different times have also been determined. It can be concluded that this presented approach is computationally more efficient and faster.
