Abstract

Abstract: The problem of friction and wear are encountered in almost all the engineering applications. Growing energy consciousness and environment friendliness demands the efficient performance of the mechanical systems. The involvement of corrosive elements further worsens the performance of different materials, especially in sliding contacts. The widespread involvement of machinery in offshore equipments has lead to the development of Ocean Tribology. This field deals with the development and testing of materials under sea water lubrication. A review on the behavior of different materials comprising of metals and metal alloys and polymer composites have been discussed in this paper.
