- Graphical abstract: Abstract: In this report, supported palladium nanocatalyst on silica coated Fe3 O4 magnetic nanoparticles was employed as a novel catalyst towards the degradation of methyl red, methyl orange and methylene blue. The reaction between palladium nanoparticles and dissolved oxygen in acidic media produced palladium hydroperoxide, which has strong ability to oxidize the proposed dyes. The results showed that, the concentration of dyes changes exponentially with time and Langmuir–Hinshelwood model was used to describe the catalytic decolorization of these dyes in the presence of palladium nanoparticles. The efficiency of the catalyst and the effects of different variables such as initial pH, catalyst loading and temperature have been discussed in detail. Degradation sequence of dyes was further investigated by liquid chromatography–mass spectroscopy technique, which confirmed the degradation of dyes to non-toxic end products.
