Abstract

ABSTRACT: The National Library of Israel's Abraham Schwadron autograph collection was established and curated by Abraham Schwadron as a national Jewish collection to celebrate the genius of the Jewish people and link them to their illustrious forbears. Among the thousands of autographs, there are several hundred non-Jewish autographs that Schwadron kept as a separate part of the collection. In the context of collection theory, this article looks at the British non-Jewish autographs and by classifying them according to different characteristics, tries to understand why Schwadron kept them and whether their role in the collection was complementary or contradictory.
