Graphical abstract: Highlights: Five new geranyl and isoprenyl furanocoumarins, garracoumarins A – E isolated from Citrus garrawayi . The TNF-α activity of the garracoumarins ranged from 11.2 to 74 μ M in activated RAW264.7 macrophages. Garracoumarins A – E displayed mild anti-inflammatory activity in activated RAW264.7 macrophages. Abstract: Anti-inflammatory activity guided isolation from Citrus garrawayi (Rutaceae) led to the discovery of five new garracoumarins A – E (1 - 5 ), and five known (6 – 10) isoprenylated furanocoumarins and the known sterol bourjotinolone A (11). Discussed herein is the anti-inflammatory structure activity relationship of the ten furanocoumarins and a detailed spectroscopic analysis leading to the structure elucidation of the new and known isoprenylated furanocoumarins.
