Graphical abstract: Highlights: Four new cucurbitane triterpenoids were isolated from the tubers of Hemsleya penxianensis . Their structure were characterized by extensive 2D-NMR studies. Compounds 1, 5, 7 had significant cytotoxic activity, with IC50 values at 5.1, 8.7, and 1.2 μ M, respectively. Abstract: Four new cucurbitacins, jinfushanencins C-F (1–4 ) and three known analogues (5 –7 ) were isolated from the tubers of Hemsleya penxianensis by Silica gel column, ODS column, pre-HPLC techniques. The structures of1 –7 were establishhed on the basis of extensive spectroscopic. The isolated compounds were tested for their cytotoxic activity against Hela human cancer cell line and compounds1, 5, and7 showed significant cytotoxicity with IC50 values at 5.1, 8.7, and 1.2 μ M, respectively. None of the compounds had active anti-HIV activity.
