- Au-SnO2 nanocomposites have been synthesised by two-step laser ablation in liquid medium. The method involves synthesis of gold colloids followed by ablation of tin target in a freshly prepared gold colloidal solution. The effect of varying ablation time shows a decrease in average particle size and formation of core-shell structure. Optical absorption spectra of Au-SnO2 exhibit a red-shift in the localised surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) peak of pure gold nanoparticle as a result of electron transfer from tin oxide to gold. The XPS of the Sn 3d peak of the sample confirms the formation of tin oxide. A negative shift in the binding energy of Au 4f peak in the XPS further confirms charge transfer process.
