- Graphical abstract: A new serials of D–π–M–π–A platinum alkyne complexes with different conjugated bridge or receptor have been designed and synthesized and the concept of hybrid starburst donor was first introduced into sensitizer design. The cell based onH3, with aminophenyl acetylene and fluorene alkyne as hybrid starburst donor, incorporated with EDOT as π-bridge and cyanoacetic acid as receptor, exhibits a 4.21% conversion efficiency under AM 1.5G sunlight. Highlights: Three novel platinum acetylide sensitizers were synthesized and applied in DSSCs. The EDOT group was introduced into π-bridge. The concept of hybrid starburst donor was first put forward. The PCE of the DSSCs with D–π–M–π–A sensitizer was improved. Abstract: The rational design and synthesis of sensitizers in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) by adjusting the structure of electron donor, π-bridge, or electron acceptor of D–π–A moieties is an effective mean for optimizing their photovoltaic performance. Herein, three novel D–π–M–π–A platinum acetylide sensitizers with different conjugated bridge or acceptor have been designed and synthesized.
