- Abstract : Carbon spheres of nanometric dimension obtained from a targeted chemical vapor deposition synthesis process show a curvature shape similar to fullerenes, but with numerous graphitic rings that regulate the inside structure and the formation of open edges at the surface. The graphitic‐sp 2 arrangement of the carbon atoms in the architectures and the presence of residual iron catalyst inside the structure confers the spheres a ferromagnetic response at room temperature. Consequently, both the structural properties and the active contribution of iron mark the difference when employed as active media in photon‐energy and electrochemical experiments. The collected results underline the advantages offered by this synthesis route and the properties of the carbon spheres as active nanomaterial for sustainable applications. This is reported by Manuela Scarselli and co‐workers in article number1800070 .
