Abstract

Graphical abstract: Abstract: The one-electron electrochemical oxidation and reduction of N -[bis(4, 4, 5, 5-tetramethyl-3-oxido-1-oxyl-4, 5-dihydro-1 H -imidazol-2-yl)methylene]-2-methylpropan-2-amine oxide, which is the first representative of a C(sp 2 )-coupled nitronyl nitroxide diradical, result in the formation of the corresponding doublet radical cation and radical anion in acetonitrile. The radical ions have been obtained using a combination of electrochemical and EPR techniques and characterized by DFT calculations.
