- Abstract: The city of Leiden, the Netherlands, is home to a well-known university and several excellent museums. Among them is Museum Boerhaave, the Dutch National Museum for the History of Science and Medicine. Recently John visited its library to explore the archive of the 20th century Dutch mathematician-physicist-engineer Balthasar van der Pol (Figure 1 ).
