- Abstract : Background: Hypertension is the most prevalent chronic disease in Indonesia. Although the prevalence of hypertension tends to reduce based on National Basic Health Research 2007 and 2013, 31.7% and 25.8%, respectively; hypertension still leads to increasing the risk of mortality. Objective: This study is conducted to determine the characteristics, comorbidities, and management of hypertensive patients hospitalized in Dr. Agoesdjam General Hospital. Methods: This is a cross sectional study with descriptive analysis from medical record in January-December 2014. Total sampling consisted of adult patients with primary or secondary diagnosis of hypertension based on JNC VII. All documented data were analyzed using SPSS ver 18.0. Result: There were 252 hypertension cases with complete medical records included and 50% were male. Mean ± SD of age was 56.6 + 12.4 years, 54.8% were within 41–60 years. Subjects came with clinical manifestations: dyspnea (27.4%), fatigue (19.4%), and reduced consciousness (12.7%). Mostly were hospitalized due to stroke (25.4%), chronic kidney disease (11.5%), and hypertensive heart disease (9.9%). Hypertension was the major comorbid, followed by diabetes mellitus. Subjects were admitted with hypertension grade II (89.3%) with mean systolic and diastolic pressure were 180 mmHg and 108 mmHg respectively. Mean ± SD length of hospitalization was 5.06 + 4.28 days. Most of hypertension grade II was well-managed with 2 drugs combination which usedAbstract : Background: Hypertension is the most prevalent chronic disease in Indonesia. Most of hypertension grade II was well-managed with 2 drugs combination which used ACE and CCB (25%) ( p < 0.05). Conclusion: Hypertension is still a challenging health problem and major comorbid of non-communicable disease in hospitalized patients. The prevalence of hypertension is similar in both gender and highly occurs in adult ≥40 years. … (more)
