- Highlights: We review a recent attempt to experimentally test the handicap hypothesis. This study provides new insights, including some not addressed in the paper. We explain why this study does not support the handicap hypothesis. This study illustrates problems with the theory and testing this hypothesis. We suggest novel theoretical and empirical considerations for future studies.
