Abstract

Abstract : The presentation will focus on the description and implementation of the assessment of image quality in CT. At first the standard methods of image quality measurements, based on signal theory, will be briefly presented together with their strengths and weaknesses. Then, the concept of task based image quality assessments will be presented with an introduction in psychophysics and the theory of model observers. Ideal and anthropomorphic model observers will be discussed together with their potential uses. Finally practical examples will be given to show how model observers could be used in the framework of the patient dose optimization in CT.
