- Abstract : Objective: Study the treatment evolution of hypertensive subjects from a multiprofessional reference service in a brazilian capital. Design and method: Retrospective cohort study that analised the treatment evolution of all patients with regular follow-up in a multiprofessional service (regular appointments with physicians, nurses and nutritionists). Data from the first and last appointments were obtained from the patients files. The variables considered were: a) socioeconomical (gender, age, origin); b) clinical (family risk of cardiovascular diseases, follow-up time, blood pressure, physical activity, alcohol consumption, smoking and body mass índex (BMI)) and c) laboratory (lipids profile, fasting glucose and creatinin). Results: Data from 1166 patients were analised, with a mean age of 63 ± 12, 4 years, 74, 4% females and 44, 7% with an stable partner. The mean time of follow-up was 8, 0 ± 7, 4 years. There was no significant changes of the BMI and HDL-CT values between the two visits. Regarding the others variables, significant changes happened in some of them (table 1). It was observed throughout the years a significant increase on the rates of patients with controlled blood pressure (BP < 140x90mmHg) among the non diabetics (25, 4% x 56, 3% - p < 0, 05), and the same happened with the diabetic patients (BP < 130x80mmHg) in which the rates of control went from 7, 1% to 27, 2%. Conclusions: It was observed a significant improve in almost all the variables analised showing a probably due to higher adherence to treatment of patients undergoing multiprofessional treatment. … (more)
