- Abstract : While roads stimulate economic activity in the developing world, they also accelerate environmental degradation. In the wake of the bulldozers come habitat loss, wildfires and other phenomena that can have irreversible impacts on ecosystems and the potential for sustainable agriculture. With sharp rises predicted in both road-building activity and global food demand, international teams of scientists have offered governments data tools that show where roads should go to do more good than harm.
