Abstract

Abstract : Discitis is a bacterial infection of the intervertebral disc that is commonly caused by direct inoculation from surgery or hematogenous seeding. Rapid diagnosis and treatment are essential to preserve spinal stability and neurological function. Discitis is usually treated nonoperatively with antibiotics. However, when surgical intervention is indicated, debridement and intervertebral fusion are often performed to promote healing, limit neurological impairment, and restore spinal stability.
