Abstract

Abstract: Although the routine use of pulmonary artery catheters has significantly reduced in recent years, they are still used in the management of critically ill patients and the investigation of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. We present an overview of the history, indications, complications and technique of insertion. The key measurements and waveforms obtained with the pulmonary artery catheter are briefly discussed, along with data interpretation.
