Abstract

Abstract : E ‐HTIs can't break free ! Z ‐Hemithioindigo (HTI) N ‐oxide derivatives (HTIs) formed thermodynamically and kinetically stable 1:1 complexes with a super aryl‐extended calix[4]pyrrole, driven by the formation of four simultaneous hydrogen bonds and the deep inclusion of the HTIs in the aromatic cavity (right). Photoirradiation at 450 nm induced the isomerization of the bound HTIs affording the E ‐HTI⊂host complexes (left). The small change produced by the photoisomerization process on the stability of the complexes explains the lack of blue‐light‐induced release of the E ‐HTIs to the bulk solution.
