- Graphical abstract: Highlights: The development of mild and atom-economical protocols to access structurally diverse alkenes is still highly desirable. The Et3 N-catalyzed alkenylation of γ-substituted butenolides with cyclic N -sulfonylated imines in water is described. The reaction is efficient under mild conditions to give α-arylidene butenolide derivatives in high yield (82–96%). Abstract: An efficient Et3 N-catalyzed alkenylation of γ-substituted deconjugated butenolides with cyclic N -sulfonylated imines in water is described. The reaction proceeds efficiently under mild reaction conditions to give α-arylidene butenolide derivatives in high yield (82–96%).
