Abstract

Abstract : (Abstracted from J Matern Fetal Neonatal Med 2017;30:461–465) When the second stage of labor is 3 hours or more in nulliparous women with an epidural, it has been defined as "prolonged second stage." Effective clinical management of the second stage is crucial because much of the maternal and neonatal morbidity associated with birth occurs during the second stage or around delivery. In nulliparous women, a prolonged second stage of labor occurs in 9.9% to 16.7% of cases.
