- Highlights: This study investigated the progression of misconduct for serious and violent juveniles receiving a blended sentence. Four groups were identified emphasizing the heterogeneous nature of juvenile institutional misconduct over three years. Relative to abstainers, the three other groups are indistinguishable in the frequency of infractions by year three. 20% of juvenile offenders commit infractions at a high rate from the outset of incarceration and continue violating rules. Convictions for assault, robbery, and homicide are related to membership in the early onset group.
