Abstract

Abstract : This case describes the treatment of a group O RH 17-positive baby affected by high titre maternal anti-RH17. Fetal treatment was 2 Rhnull and 2 -D-/-D- (one ABO-mismatched and CMV-seropositive), RH17-negative intrauterine transfusions. Intravenous immunoglobulin was given prophylactically to the fetus because of maternal CMV-seronegativity. Postnatally, 3 RH 17-negative transfusions and folic acid were administered. Rhnull intrauterine transfusions gave poor results but overall treatment was successful. The baby was well at 6 months of age. Fetal exposure to A antigen caused neither tolerisation nor premature alloimmunisation.
