Abstract

Abstract : Mesothelial inclusions in mediastinal lymph nodes are uncommon and are a great mimic of metastatic carcinoma or malignant mesothelioma. Several studies have shown that inclusions are mostly found in lymph nodes draining regions of pleural effusions or pericardial effusions from various causes. Our case report illustrates that the finding of mesothelial inclusions can also be associated with previous cardiac surgery. The mechanism of lymph node seeding by these benign mesothelial cells is thought to be migration of the mesothelial cells via lymphatics as part of post surgical inflammatory processes. It is important to be aware of the possibility of mesothelial inclusions in lymph nodes to avoid overdiagnosis of metastatic carcinoma or malignant mesothelioma. References Paull G, Mosunjac N.
