- Abstract: In this paper, self-activated LiCa3 MgV3 O12 (LCMV) and Eu 3+ -activated LCMV phosphors were prepared by a traditional solid-state synthesis method. The LCMV host exhibited a broadband excitation spectrum in the near-ultraviolet (NUV) wavelength range of 250–400 nm and gave rise to a strong broadband bluish-green emission in the 400–700 nm visible region. Due to the energy transfer from [VO4 ] 3− groups to Eu 3+ ions, Eu 3+ -activated LCMV phosphors showed tunable bluish-green-to-white-to-red photoluminescence by increasing the Eu 3+ concentrations under NUV excitation at 336 nm. Particularly, the LCMV:0.005Eu 3+ sample emitted bright white light with high internal quantum efficiency as great as 53%. These tunable white-light-emitting LCMV:Eu 3+ phosphors are promising for applications in white light-emitting diodes and optoelectronic displays. Graphical abstract: A novel high-efficiency single-composition white-light-emitting LiCa3 MgV3 O12 :Eu 3+ phosphor was developed. Highlights: LiCa3 MgV3 O12 showed self-activated bluish-green emission. LiCa3 MgV3 O12 :Eu 3+ exhibited tunable emissions by increasing the Eu 3+ concentrations. Energy transfer from LiCa3 MgV3 O12 host to Eu 3+ ions was observed. LiCa3 MgV3 O12 :0.005Eu 3+ phosphors emitted bright white light with IQE of 53%.
