Abstract

This commentary argues that the journalism educators themselves have unilaterally engendered their dukkha by demanding equal academic status for the output of journalism practice and by concealing the fact that journalism studies suffer no such discrimination. It suggests that the solution to the perceived problem might be the adoption of the concept of mindful journalism, which could elevate news from the status of a commodity to that of a social good.
